On behalf of EPIZONE we
invite scientists and stakeholders to participate in
the 6th Annual Meeting EPIZONE "Viruses on the
move".
The meeting will be held in Brighton of the south coast of England
and will begin with a Drinks reception on the evening of
12th June in the Old Ship Hotel, Brighton. The
Main Meeting will take place over 2 full days on 13th
and 14th June at the Dome complex.
The theme of the 6th Annual Meeting reflects the ever changing virus landscape. This poses continuing and new threats to animal and human health and food security and provides challenges for control of animal diseases. The meeting will address the latest developments aimed at monitoring and understanding the evolution, emergence, transmission and spread of epizootic viruses. Focus will remain on EPIZONE themes aimed at improved disease control through integration and collaboration of research in diagnostics, intervention strategies, risk assessment, surveillance and epidemiology.
A stimulating scientific
programme will be provided by invited speakers and
selected poster and oral presentations covering recent research in
epizootic diseases of cattle, pigs, poultry, sheep and goats, fish
and horses.
Presentations will be selected from submitted
abstracts to sessions including: Diagnostics, Intervention
Strategies, Epidemiology and Emerging Diseases, Risk Assessment,
and the special topics, African swine fever and Next
generation sequencing.
Please register and submit your abstract and book your hotel
accommodation using the links from this website.
Special topics
- "African swine fever and other emerging virus
diseases".
African swine fever (ASF) is a devastating, highly fatal disease of
pigs which has severe socio-economic consequences in affected
countries. The recent spread of ASF to the Trans Caucasus region
and Russian Federation emphasises the risks for further global
spread and the threat posed to global food security.
And because of the theme of this meeting "Viruses on the
move"
- "Application of next generation sequencing technologies
to virus research".
New developments in sequencing technologies offer enormous
potential for virus discovery and diagnosis as well as
opportunities for understanding virus, host interactions. This
session will review the latest technologies and their applications
to virology.
On top of that we will organise in
Brighton after the 6th Annual Meeting
a Satellite Symposium on 15th June 2012 on the
topic
"Schmallenberg virus"
This new virus causes fatal malformations and stillbirths in cattle, sheep, and goats. Still a lot of questions remain to be answered. Keynote speakers will be invited for lectures on all aspects of the Schmallenberg virus, such as diagnostics, vaccine development, epidemiology, and risk assessment. Oral as well as poster presentations will be held, and there will be scheduled time for discussions and sharing knowledge and experiences
This 6th Annual Meeting builds
on previous highly successful EPIZONE meetings and will provide
extensive opportunities for networking, scientific exchange and
fostering collaborations. The meeting is hosted by IAH.
IAH receives strategic funding from the Biotechnology and
Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC).
The Organising and Scientific Committee look forward to
welcoming you in Brighton, UK in June
2012.
